The NSAB have agreed an updated Self-Neglect policy which is being launched today during Safeguarding Adults Week 2024.
The previous policy (which is agreed on a North of Tyne basis with Northumberland and North Tyneside Safeguarding Adult Boards) had been in place since 2016; it’s review was recommended in a number of local Safeguarding Adult Reviews.
With 19% of Section 42 enquiries in Newcastle featuring self-neglect and 60% of Safeguarding Adult Reviews nationally including an aspect of self-neglect, it is an important document for practitioners in Newcastle.
The policy builds on the existing resources that have been in place for a number of years – an animation aimed at members of the public and seven, 7-minute briefings about different topics linked to self-neglect.
