The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) North East Region have funded a radio campaign to raise public awareness of safeguarding issues for adults with care and support needs.
The campaign consists of three adverts which are being aired across March and April 2021 on local radio stations in the region – Metro Radio and TFM.
Getting key messages out to the public about safeguarding adults is really important during the Covid-19 pandemic because abuse or neglect may be hidden to professionals. A lot of awareness raising is online (via social media or websites) but we know that this means a lot of people miss out on these messages.
The short adverts cover three different scenarios:
- domestic abuse in older people
- emotional abuse and bullying of someone with a learning disability
- financial abuse (scamming) of an older person
They encourage members of the public to look out for eachother, say no to abuse and report concerns to their local social services. Please see our report a concern webpage to find out more about reporting a concern in Newcastle.
