Safeguarding Adults Week 2025

Safeguarding Adults Week is a time for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues.

In Newcastle this year, we will be focussing on raising awareness with our communities and members of the public in Newcastle. We plan to have a presence in a number of locations throughout the week to talk about what safeguarding adults is and how people can get help if they need it. We will be at:

  • Morrisons Byker (Monday 17th November, 9.30-12noon)
  • Throckley Community Centre Coffee Morning (Tuesday 18th November 2025, 10am-12noon)
  • The Grainger Market (Wednesday 19th November 2025, 11am-3pm)

If you’re nearby, why not come and say hello?

In collaboration with Rise North East we will be hosting a Safeguarding Adults in Sport Workshop on Thursday 20th November 2025, 7-8.30pm, Newcastle Eagles (Vertu Motors Arena). This session is for sports clubs across Tyne, Wear, Northumberland and Durham. Tickets for this can be booked via this link

We need your help

We want to try and spread the safeguarding adults message far and wide and you can help. We’ve got lots of ideas and resources to get you started. Even something as simple as putting up a poster in your place of work or your community building goes a long way. Other ideas:

We’ve got resources (e.g. leaflets and posters) that you can download digitally or email safeguardingboards@newcastle.gov.uk to ask for hard copies to be sent out to you.

We know that people can be unsure of safeguarding and worried about speaking out. We’ve created this short video to explain what it means to keep adults safe. It also clears up some common mistakes people make when talking about safeguarding. You’ll hear from people who have been through the safeguarding process and shared what it was like for them. You could share this video during Safeguarding Adults Week to help raise awareness.

Let us know what you get up to

We’d love to hear from you if you do take part in Safeguarding Adults Week. We will publish a write-up of the week and can include information and photos of what you’ve got up. Please email safeguardingboards@newcastle.gov.uk

Professional Webinars

As we have a focus on community awareness raising, our programme for professionals is reduced compared to previous years. There are still opportunities to learn:
