Did you know there is free safeguarding support for sports clubs in Newcastle? From archery through to Zumba, there is help available. Sarah Baylis (pictured) from Rise North East has given us an introduction to her role below.
Hi! My name’s Sarah and I’m the Sport Welfare Manager for the active partnership Rise. I’m part of the new Sport England and National Lottery funded Sport Welfare Officer network, which is a national project from Sport England, Active Partnerships, National Governing Bodies of sport, the Child Protection in Sport Unit, and the Ann Craft Trust.
My role is to support sports clubs, organisations and activity providers in Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle with creating safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for children and adults to take part in sport and activities. This is a fully funded support service and I can help with:
- 1:1 support in safeguarding and good welfare practice (supporting with safeguarding policies, DBS queries, and codes of conducts – to name a few!)
- Working with your Club Welfare Officer/ Safeguarding Lead to create a safer club culture
- Signposting to areas of support and advice in safeguarding, welfare and inclusive practices
- Free training in safeguarding and welfare topics, and the chance to connect with other volunteers from across sports
Please reach out to me for support, a chance for me to meet your sports club or organisation, or for more information about how you can access free training and resources.
